The EMAX Silent Air ESS10V080V1 is a 10 HP, 80-gallon two-stage piston air compressor built for shops that run air tools, lifts, and spray equipment through a full workday. It runs on 230V single-phase power, delivers 38 CFM (34 CFM at its maximum 175 PSI), and stores air in a vertical, ASME-certified 80-gallon tank. The unit is ETL, ASME, and CRN certified, ships with a factory-installed magnetic starter, and rides on vibration isolator pads.

What sets this model apart is the patented Silent Air™ silencer system. It brings operation to at or below conversational volume — up to 50% quieter than a comparable unprotected pump, where every 10 dBA drop equals roughly a 50% reduction in loudness to the human ear. Because the silencer is an external system rather than a sealed cabinet, it stays easy to service and leaves the pump fully accessible. The intake side uses noise-reducing baffle plates and high-capacity filter media for up to 1000% more filtration than a standard intake — quieter air in, cleaner air through the pump.

Power reaches the pump through a two-belt V-belt drive using wider B- and C-width belts rather than a single narrow belt. The extra belt provides more grip surface and lower belt tension, which reduces strain on the motor and pump bearings and keeps noise and vibration down — a durable, low-maintenance drive built for thousands of running hours.

The two-stage, V-style pump (model APP4V1043TR2) is splash-lubricated with a 2-quart oil capacity and carries an estimated 50,000-hour service life. A splash system uses rod dippers that pass through the crankcase oil and carry it up onto the cylinders and bearings as the pump turns.

This is a heavy vertical unit and ships by freight on a pallet. Plan for a forklift or a liftgate-equipped delivery, and allow space for the 75-inch uncrated height.

Warranty

EMAX covers the compressor against defects in material, workmanship, and parts for 1 year from the date of delivery, including one year of warranty labor from an authorized technician. Parts shipped for warranty repairs include ground freight for the first six months; standard technical assistance is provided at no charge during and after the warranty period.

The standard warranty extends to a full 5 years when you register the unit and follow the EMAX extended-warranty plan, which requires using EMAX-approved oil and keeping to the maintenance schedule below. Register at emaxwarranty.com.

Maintenance required to keep warranty status

  • The unit ships with break-in oil that must be changed within 70 hours of first use to seat the gaskets.
  • After break-in, change the oil every 6 months or 1,000 hours, whichever comes first, using EMAX-approved oil.
  • Maintain proper oil level at all times — running the unit low on oil voids the warranty.

What electrical service does it need?

It runs on 230V single-phase power and draws 52.9 full-load amps at a 1.15 service factor. EMAX recommends a 60-amp breaker; locked-rotor and peak starting current is 270 amps. A magnetic starter is installed at the factory.

How loud is it?

The patented Silent Air™ silencer brings operation to at or below conversational volume — up to 50% quieter than a comparable unprotected pump. Because every 10 dBA drop is about a 50% reduction in perceived loudness, the difference is easy to hear in a working shop.

Can it run continuously?

It is rated for a 60% duty cycle and is not rated for continuous run. Size the compressor so it cycles within that 60% window for your shop's air demand.

What maintenance does it require?

Change the factory break-in oil within the first 70 hours, then every 6 months or 1,000 hours after that. The pump holds 2 quarts. Keeping the oil at the correct level and using EMAX-approved oil is required to maintain warranty coverage.

How does it ship?
