Description

-

The EMAX Industrial Plus ESP10V120V3PK-460 is a complete shop air system: a 10 HP two-stage piston compressor on a 120-gallon vertical tank, packaged with a 58 CFM refrigerated air dryer. It delivers 38 CFM (34 CFM at its 175 PSI maximum) on 460V three-phase power, and the pressure-lubricated, all-cast-iron pump carries an estimated 70,000-hour service life. The unit is ETL, ASME, and CRN certified.

This is a Silent Air model. EMAX's patented noise suppression system runs up to 50% quieter, with noise levels at or below conversational volume — each 10 dBA drop reads as half as loud to the human ear. Unlike enclosed cabinet systems, which cost more and restrict service access, the silencer design keeps the pump fully accessible for maintenance. The intake system attacks the loudest source of compressor sound with noise-reducing baffle plates, high-capacity filter media, and up to 1000% more filtration than standard setups.

The compressor is built for sustained workloads: a 60% duty cycle with continuous-run capability. The included head unloader relieves the intake valve at preset pressure so the motor keeps running instead of repeatedly starting under load — reducing amp draw by up to 60% while unloaded and cutting electrical and mechanical wear on the motor and magnetic starter. Under high duty cycle applications (over 40%), opening the ball valve on the pilot valve allows continuous-run operation.

This unit ships crated via freight (48" x 46" x 87" crate). Contact sales@mygaragesupplies.com or call 307-381-1810 to schedule delivery.

Pressure-Lubricated Pump

A gear-driven oil pump mounted to the rear of the crankshaft generates positive oil pressure, delivering a continuous flow of oil to each bearing point — keeping bearings cool and extending pump life. The crankshaft and connecting rods are rifle-drilled for direct oil flow to high-friction wear points, and an automotive-style spin-on oil filter keeps the oil clean and simplifies oil changes. Unlike splash-lubricated systems, pressure lubrication delivers oil precisely where it's needed in high-stress, continuous-duty environments.

Oil pump with bleeder valve, pressure gauge, regulator, and spin-on filter
  • Oil pump bleeder valve — quick, efficient priming of the oil pump
  • Liquid-filled oil pressure gauge — clear, accurate readings during operation
  • Automotive-style gear oil pump — pressurizes the crankshaft bearings and upper connecting rod assembly
  • Adjustable oil pump regulator — precise oil pressure adjustment across RPM ranges
  • Spin-on oil filter — removes debris and contaminants to extend pump service life

100% Cast Iron Pump Construction

All major pump components are cast iron — crankcase, cylinder heads, cylinders, connecting rods, crankshaft, and high-pressure piston. Cast iron handles high-duty-cycle compression in a way aluminum components cannot, and there are no aluminum sleeves hidden beneath the paint.

The cylinders are CNC-machined for flatness and precise tolerances, with precision-honed bores that promote easier break-in, reduced oil carryover, and longer piston ring life. Deep cooling fins maximize surface area for efficient cylinder cooling, and deep-bored, threaded holes provide solid head retention with proper torque application.

The solid cast iron cylinder heads avoid the head gasket failures common to aluminum heads. Tapped holes give superior fastener strength, and the disc valve design holds a secure head gasket seal without retorquing.

Pistons and Connecting Rods

Cast iron piston and connecting rod assembly
  • Cast iron high-pressure pistons — withstand heavy loads and prevent cylinder scoring and pump failure
  • CNC-machined solid cast iron connecting rods — maximum rigidity at the crankshaft end, where aluminum rods commonly fail
  • Replaceable bearing inserts and wrist pins — the connecting rod assembly is fully rebuildable, not throw-away
  • Aluminum low-pressure pistons — used only on the low-stress first stage (~45 PSI) for balance and efficiency

Four-ring piston design and rifle-drilled connecting rod

The pump uses a four-ring piston design with precision-engineered overlap rings: two oil control rings remove excess oil on the downstroke, and two compression rings seal under compression to prevent blow-by — maximizing sealing, reducing oil carryover, and extending ring life. A rifle-drilled oil port carries oil through the crankshaft and up the connecting rod to the piston pin and bearing for continuous lubrication. Non-oil-absorbent gaskets minimize oil leakage and reduce maintenance.

CNC-Machined Disc Valves

The valves are CNC-machined concentric ring (disc) valves, precision surface-ground for sealing, durability, and extended service life — a design significantly more reliable than feather or fixed reed valves. Service is simple: remove the retainer, lift out the valve for inspection, and reinstall it within minutes. All valves are engineered to support the automatic head unloader system, which is included on fully packaged electric units like this one.

Flywheel and Belt Drive

Heavy-duty cast iron flywheels with optimized cooling fins

The heavy-duty cast iron flywheel maximizes energy efficiency — the increased mass generates greater kinetic energy, reducing amp draw and lowering overall energy consumption. The 10 HP pump runs a 20" flywheel with two B-style groove belts and nine large cooling fins that boost pump cooling capacity. The multi-belt drive uses wider B and C-width belts rather than narrow single A-width belts, providing more surface area for grip, reduced belt tension and bearing strain, and lower noise and vibration.

Dual-Bolt Belt Tensioner

The included dual-bolt belt tensioner makes belt adjustments easier and more precise, ensuring proper alignment while maintaining optimal belt tension — no pry bars required.

Electric Auto Drain

A dual-timer electric auto drain expels moisture from the air receiver tank automatically. The adjustable interval setting runs drain cycles from 1 to 45 minutes, with separate control over how long the drain stays open, and an included air muffler keeps water discharge quiet.

Pump Riser

The pump mounting plate riser raises the pump to allow 360-degree airflow from the flywheel across the pump oil reservoir, with additional airflow under the pump for maximum cooling.

FAQ

-

What electrical service does this compressor require?

460V (+/- 10%) three-phase service. Full load amps are 14.1 A with the 1.15 service factor, peak starting and locked rotor amps are 85.4 A, and EMAX recommends a 25 A breaker.

Can it run continuously?

Yes. The unit is rated for a 60% duty cycle and is continuous-run capable. For applications over 40% duty cycle, opening the ball valve on the pilot valve allows continuous-run operation, with the head unloader relieving compression so the motor keeps running instead of repeatedly starting under load.

How quiet is it?

The patented Silent Air system runs up to 50% quieter than standard compressors, with noise levels at or below conversational volume — without an enclosed cabinet restricting service access.

Does it come with an air dryer?

Yes. The package includes a 58 CFM refrigerated air dryer as a complete air system, with a built-in .001 micron prefilter and a .005 micron coalescing prefilter for removing moisture from your compressed air.

What maintenance does it need?

Change the break-in oil within the first 70 hours, then every 6 months or 1,000 hours using EMAX-approved oil. The automotive-style spin-on oil filter simplifies oil changes, and the EFKIT008AWBS service kit covers routine maintenance components. Oil capacity is 2 quarts.
