Description

-

The EMAX ESP10V080V3PK-460 is a 10 HP, two-stage, 80-gallon vertical air compressor packaged with a 58 CFM refrigerated air dryer as a complete air system. The pressure-lubricated pump delivers 38 CFM — 34 CFM at the 175 PSI maximum — on 460V three-phase power, and the unit carries ETL, ASME, and CRN certifications with an estimated pump life of 70,000 hours.

The Silent Air patented noise-suppression system achieves up to 50% quieter operation, with noise levels at or below conversational volume — each 10 dBA drop equals a 50% reduction to the human ear. Unlike enclosed cabinet systems, which are costly and restrict service access, the silencer design stays easy to service without compromising accessibility. It targets intake noise — the loudest source of compressor sound — with noise-reducing baffle plates, high-capacity filter media, and up to 1000% more filtration than standard intake setups.

Pressure lubrication is what separates this pump from splash-lubricated designs: an automotive-style gear oil pump mounted to the rear of the crankshaft generates positive oil pressure, delivering a continuous flow of oil to each bearing point. Every crankshaft and connecting rod is rifle-drilled for precise oil flow to bearings and other high-friction components, a spin-on automotive-style oil filter keeps the oil clean, and a liquid-filled gauge lets you monitor oil pressure during operation. In high-stress, continuous-duty environments, this is the most effective method for keeping a compressor running.

100% Cast Iron Pump

All major components of the pump are cast iron — crankcase, cylinder heads, cylinders, connecting rods, crankshaft, and the high-pressure piston. Cast iron handles high-duty-cycle compression where aluminum components lose rigidity, and there are no aluminum sleeves beneath the paint. Cylinders are CNC-machined for flatness and precise tolerances, with deep cooling fins that maximize surface area, deep-bored and threaded head-bolt holes for solid head retention, and precision-honed bore surfaces for easier break-in, reduced oil carryover, and longer piston ring life.

Pistons and Connecting Rods

Piston and connecting rod assembly line diagram with callouts 1 through 4

  1. Cast iron high-pressure pistons — designed to withstand heavy loads and prevent cylinder scoring and pump failure.
  2. CNC-machined solid cast iron connecting rods — maximum rigidity and strength for long-term reliability.
  3. Replaceable bearing inserts and wrist pins — the connecting rod assembly is fully rebuildable, not throw-away.
  4. Aluminum low-pressure pistons — used on the low-pressure side for balance and efficiency, where stress is low (~45 PSI).

Piston and connecting rod line diagram with callouts 5 through 7

  1. Four-ring piston design — two oil-control rings remove excess oil on the downstroke and two compression rings seal under compression, minimizing blow-by and oil carryover.
  2. Reinforced rod base — cast iron maintains strength at the crankshaft end of the rod, the point where aluminum rods commonly fail.
  3. Rifle-drilled rod oil port — oil travels through the crankshaft and up the rod passage to the piston pin and bearing for continuous lubrication.

Pressure-Lubricated Oil System

  1. Oil pump bleeder valve — quick, efficient priming of the oil pump.
  2. Liquid-filled oil pressure gauge — clear, accurate readings during operation.
  3. Automotive-style gear oil pump — pressurizes the crankshaft bearings and upper connecting rod assembly, improving bearing cooling.
  4. Adjustable oil pump regulator — precise oil pressure adjustment across RPM ranges.
  5. Automotive-style spin-on oil filter — removes debris and contaminants, simplifying oil changes.

Cast Iron Cylinder Heads with Disc Valves

The cylinder heads are solid cast iron — no aluminum heads, which are prone to head gasket failures and typically carry shorter-lived reed-style valves. Tapped holes provide superior bolt strength, and the head design holds its gasket seal without retorquing. Inside, CNC-machined concentric ring (disc) valves are precision surface-ground for sealing and durability — a design significantly more reliable than feather or fixed reed valves. Service is simple: remove the retainer, lift out the valve for inspection, and reinstall it within minutes.

Head Unloaders and Continuous Run

This fully packaged electric unit includes automatic head unloaders, recommended for duty cycles of 40% or greater. When maximum tank pressure is reached, the preset pilot valve unloads the compressor so the motor keeps running instead of repeatedly starting under load — reducing amp draw by up to 60% while unloaded and minimizing electrical and mechanical wear on the motor and magnetic starter. The unloader holds the intake valve open while the piston continues cycling, circulating cool air through the cylinder to dissipate heat. Under high-duty-cycle applications, the ball valve connected to the pilot valve can be opened for continuous-run operation.

Heavy Cast Iron Flywheel and Belt Drive

Cast iron flywheel configurations across the pump line

The 10 HP pump runs a 20-inch heavy-duty cast iron flywheel with two B-style groove belts and nine large cooling fins. The added mass generates greater kinetic energy, reducing amp draw and energy consumption, while the multiple B-groove belts give a larger contact surface for longer belt life and the optimized fins boost pump cooling. Unlike narrow single A-width belt drives, the multi-belt B-width design grips better, runs at lower belt tension to reduce strain on motor and compressor bearings, and cuts noise and vibration. A dual-bolt belt tensioner keeps alignment and tension precise — no pry bars required — and the pump mounting riser raises the pump for 360-degree airflow from the flywheel to cool the oil reservoir.

Dual-Timer Electric Auto Drain

The included electric auto drain expels moisture from the air receiver tank automatically, with adjustable drain cycles from 1 to 45 minutes and an adjustable open-duration setting. An air muffler quiets the water-dispensing cycle.

58 CFM Refrigerated Air Dryer

The package includes a 58 CFM refrigerated air dryer to remove moisture from your compressed air, with a built-in 0.001-micron prefilter and a 0.005-micron coalescing prefilter.

FAQ

-

How loud is it?

The patented Silent Air suppression system runs up to 50% quieter than comparable compressors, with noise levels at or below conversational volume. Each 10 dBA reduction reads as half as loud to the human ear.

What electrical service does it need?

460V three-phase service with a 25 A recommended breaker. Full-load amperage is 14.1 A with the 1.15 service factor; peak starting draw is 85.4 A. The included magnetic starter and head unloaders protect the motor from repeated starts under load.

Can it run continuously?

Yes. The unit is rated for a 60% duty cycle, and for high-duty-cycle applications above 40%, opening the ball valve on the pilot valve allows continuous-run operation while the head unloaders keep the pump cool.

What maintenance does the warranty require?

Change the break-in oil within the first 70 hours, then change oil every 6 months or 1,000 hours using EMAX-approved Smart Oil, and maintain proper oil level. The spin-on automotive-style filter makes oil changes straightforward, and the EFKIT008AWBS service kit covers the required maintenance components.
