Description

-

The EMAX Silent Air Industrial 5 HP 80-gallon two-stage air compressor pairs full shop-air output with a patented intake silencer, so a busy bay can run impact tools, sanders, and spray equipment without the wall-shaking racket of a typical industrial piston compressor. It delivers 19 CFM at 100 PSI and 17 CFM at its 175 PSI maximum from an 80-gallon vertical tank, with enough stored air to carry continuous-air tasks through a full workday.

What separates this unit from splash-lubricated compressors in its class is the pressure-lubricated, cast-iron pump. A gear-driven oil pump pushes a continuous flow of filtered oil to every bearing, the same way an automotive engine is oiled, which holds internal temperatures down and supports an estimated 70,000-hour pump life. The motor runs on 230V single-phase power, and the compressor is ETL listed, built on an ASME-coded tank, and CRN registered. Vibration isolator pads are included.

Features

Silent Air™ patented noise suppression

Intake noise is the loudest part of a piston compressor, so the Silent Air silencer is built to quiet it at the source with noise-reducing baffle plates and high-capacity intake filtration. The result holds operating sound at or below conversational volume — quiet enough to talk next to the machine while it runs. Unlike a fully enclosed cabinet, the silencer keeps the pump open for service and stays easy to maintain.

Pressure-lubricated oiling system

A gear-driven oil pump mounted to the rear of the crankshaft generates positive oil pressure across the whole pump. The crankshaft and connecting rods are rifle-drilled so oil travels straight to the bearings and wrist pins, while an automotive-style spin-on oil filter keeps that oil clean and makes oil changes simple. A liquid-filled gauge shows oil pressure at a glance, an adjustable regulator dials it in across RPM ranges, and a bleeder valve primes the pump quickly. Oil capacity is 1.75 quarts.

Cast-iron pump construction

The crankcase, cylinders, cylinder heads, high-pressure piston, connecting rods, and crankshaft are all cast iron — no aluminum cylinder sleeves under the paint. Cylinders are CNC-machined with deep cooling fins and precision-honed bores for concentricity and reduced oil carryover, and the heads use deep-bored, threaded holes that hold torque so the head gasket seals without retorquing. Cast iron handles high-duty-cycle compression and heat far better than aluminum.

Rebuildable pistons and connecting rods

A cast-iron high-pressure piston rides on CNC-machined solid cast-iron connecting rods, and a four-ring piston design — two oil-control rings plus two compression rings — cuts oil carryover and blow-by. Replaceable bearing inserts and wrist pins make the rod assembly fully rebuildable rather than throw-away. At the crankshaft end, where aluminum rods commonly fail, cast iron carries the load; the low-pressure piston is aluminum because it works under low stress around 45 PSI.

CNC disc valves

The pump uses CNC-machined concentric-ring (disc) valves, surface-ground for a tight seal and long service life. Service is straightforward: remove the retainer, lift the valve out for inspection, and reinstall it in minutes — far less downtime than reed or feather valve systems.

Cast-iron flywheel and multi-belt drive

The 5 HP pump turns a 16-inch cast-iron flywheel with two B-groove belts and cast-in cooling fins. The added flywheel mass lowers amp draw, and spreading the load across two belts cuts belt tension, lowers vibration, and extends belt life compared with a single narrow A-width belt.

Warranty

-

EMAX backs every Silent Air piston compressor with a 1-year standard warranty from the date of delivery, covering defects in material, workmanship, and parts, and including one year of warranty labor through an authorized technician. Standard technical assistance is provided at no charge during and after the warranty period.

Coverage extends to a full 5 years when you register the compressor and maintain it with EMAX SMART OIL™ on the published schedule — change the factory break-in oil within the first 70 hours, then every 6 months or 1,000 hours, whichever comes first. The 5-year path uses the EMAX 5-Year Extended Warranty Kit (EFKIT008AWBS), sold separately. Full terms are in the warranty statement below.

FAQ

-

What power does it require?

230V single-phase service, within ±10%. The motor draws 26.45 full-load amps with its 1.15 service factor and 135 locked-rotor amps at start, so a 40-amp breaker is recommended. The unit uses a fixed start type and does not include a magnetic starter, so plan motor protection to match your installation and local code.

How loud is it?

The Silent Air silencer quiets intake noise — the loudest part of a piston compressor — and brings operating sound to at or below conversational volume, so you can hold a conversation standing next to it while it runs.

Can it run continuously?

It is rated for a 60% duty cycle. For continuous-run or high-duty-cycle use, the pump's valves are engineered to accept an automatic head unloader, which holds the intake valve open at a preset pressure so the motor keeps running unloaded instead of repeatedly stopping and starting.

What oil does it use, and how much?

The pump holds 1.75 quarts. It ships with factory break-in oil that should be changed within the first 70 hours; EMAX SMART OIL™ is then required to keep the extended warranty in force.

This compressor ships by freight on a pallet and weighs 765 lb crated, so a forklift or a liftgate-equipped delivery is recommended for unloading. To arrange freight delivery or ask about lead time, contact MGS at sales@mygaragesupplies.com or 307-381-1810.
