The Atlas Air Force AF5 is a 5 HP, 60-gallon single-stage vertical air compressor built for steady shop air on a 220V single-phase service. A three-cylinder cast-iron reciprocating pump moves 20 CFM at 40 PSI and 18 CFM at 90 PSI, with the tank cycling between 90 and 125 PSI. The vertical 60-gallon tank is made in the USA.

The AF5 lands at the entry point of Atlas's Air Force line — enough output to run most pneumatic tools (impacts, ratchets, die grinders, paint sprayers), and enough tank to keep cycle times reasonable in a one- or two-bay shop. Atlas notes that the AF5 can run an Atlas SBC420 entry-level sandblast cabinet for short periods, but not continuously; shops that need extended sandblasting should size up to the AF6 or larger.

Can the AF5 run an Atlas SBC420 sandblast cabinet?

For short periods, yes. The AF5 produces enough PSI to operate the SBC420 entry-level sandblast cabinet for short bursts, but not enough air to keep it running for extended sessions. Shops that sandblast continuously should step up to the Atlas AF6 or larger.

What electrical service does the AF5 need?

220V single-phase on a 30 amp breaker, wired with #10 gauge wire. Confirm your shop has the dedicated circuit before delivery.

What's the air-outlet size?

1/2" NPT, with a ball valve installed at the outlet.

Is the tank made in the USA?

Yes. The 60-gallon vertical tank is USA-made.

What pneumatic tools can the AF5 run?

At 18 CFM @ 90 PSI, the AF5 covers the air requirements of most shop tools — impacts, ratchets, die grinders, sanders, paint sprayers, and pneumatic body tools. High-consumption tools that draw continuously (large sandblast cabinets, plasma cutters with extended duty cycles, HVLP paint guns at full output) may exceed the AF5's sustained CFM and call for a larger compressor.
