Best Car Lift Brands: How to Judge a Lift Manufacturer

The best car lift brand for your garage is the one that sells a certified model of the lift type you need, backed by a written warranty and by manuals and parts you can get after the sale. All four can be checked before you buy. This guide shows how to check each one, then lists the nine lift brands we carry, with model counts and real price ranges from our catalog of 243 lifts and lift packages.

How to Judge a Car Lift Brand

1. Third-party safety certification. ALI certification means a lift model has been tested by an independent, OSHA-recognized laboratory to ANSI/ALI ALCTV, the safety standard for the construction, testing and validation of automotive service lifts. Certified lifts carry ALI's gold label, and the Automotive Lift Institute keeps an online directory of certified lifts; a model that is not in the directory is not certified. Certification belongs to a model, not to a brand, so look up the exact model number. Other marks you will see, such as CE marking or an ETL listing on the power unit, cover different things, so read what the listing says each mark applies to.

2. The written warranty. Lift warranties are split by component: the structure (columns, runways, arms), the hydraulics, the power unit and other parts often carry different terms. Read four things: the structural term, the parts term, whether labor is covered, and who pays to ship warranty parts. The terms for each brand we carry are in the brand notes below.

3. Manuals and parts. Cables, seals and pads wear over a lift's life. Before you buy, get the installation and operation manual for the exact model; it states the concrete, ceiling and power the lift needs, and many of our listings link it. Ask how replacement parts are ordered.

4. The right lift type. Choose the type first, then compare the brands that build it: a two-post for wheels-off service, a four-post for storage and drive-on work, a scissor lift for low ceilings and wheel service, a single post for tight bays. Our two-post vs four-post guide and home garage lift guide walk through that choice.

Car Lift Brand FAQ

Who makes the best car lifts? No single manufacturer is best for every garage. Judge the specific model: whether it is in ALI's directory, what its written warranty covers, how you get its manual and parts, and whether its capacity, lift height and footprint fit your vehicles and building.

Do I need an ALI-certified lift? For a commercial shop, check with your local building department and your insurer before you buy, because some codes and inspectors require certified lifts. For a home garage it is your call, and certification is still the clearest independent evidence that a model was tested to the safety standard.

Does a car lift warranty cover labor? Check before you buy. Tuxedo and iDEAL, for example, do not cover labor unless a defect is found at installation. Read the labor terms before you buy, and budget for installation separately.

Call 307-381-1810 with your ceiling height, floor and vehicles, and we will narrow the brands and models to the ones that fit.
